Sažetak
The paper shows the importance of the shipbuilding for the overall development of countries, especially their national economies. It also explained the importance of shipbuilding in the development of individual countries. The role of the shipbuilding in some countries has been analyzed through the contribution of different countries in total world shipbuilding market. Especially was explained with the world, and then the European market. Also, it is analyzed the contribution of individual countries in relation to gross domestic product/per capita which can be seen that many important shipbuilding countries have higher GDP than Croatian. It shows that Croatia should not leave the shipbuilding at this level of gross domestic product, which was arguably the meaning of the shipbuilding for the Croatian economy. In the final part of the paper is set out strategies and measures for the preservation of shipbuilding in the Republic of Croatia.
