Sažetak
Cereal products are a significant part of human nutrition. The changes in living standards and styles have had a certain impact on their consumption, both in terms of type and quantity of cereal products consumed in households. Insights into consumption are an important aspect in planning the production of cereal products, and consequently in formulating agricultural policy. This paper aims to analyze the available indicators of household consumption of cereal products in the Republic of Croatia, and to examine the impact of living standards, expressed in terms of real available income per household member, on changes in consumption. Standard statistical methods were used to analyse the data. Annual changes in consumption are expressed in index numbers, whereas the correlation analysis is conducted in order to examine the relationship between the observed variables. The results are a basis for further research, which should include different socio-demographic and economic indicators. Because of data insufficiency, it is particularly advised to change the current methodology of data collection and to create an adequate database.
