Sažetak
The elements present in honey and their concentration can be correlated with the type of plant species and geographical origin such as soil type, environmental pollutants, etc.1 Atomic spectrometry methods are widespread and very useful for simultaneous determination of the metals in various types of samples. Inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) was used for the quantitative determination of selected metal content in honey samples collected from several counties of the Republic of Croatia. Microwave assisted digestion using addition of nitric acid and hydrogen peroxide proved to be most appropriate for the preparation of sample solutions.2, 3 Applied analytical procedure was controlled with standard reference material, SRM-1571 Orchard leaves. The analysis included 15 metals (Ba, Ca, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, K, Mg, Mn, Na, Ni) and 2 nonmetals (P, S). Calibration range was set for the metals from 0t2 mg kg1 and for the nonmetals from 0to mg kg1. Also, the method detection limits were determined and calculated using 3σ criterion. The precision of intensity measurements on chosen analytical emission lines comprises 0.1 – 3.0 % RSD. All collected data was statistically processed using principal component analysis (PCA) and cluster analysis (CA) with the aim of characterizing the most significant parameters in the analysed samples.
