Sažetak
Pursuant to the Croatian Nature Protection Act, education is one of the activities of the public institutions for the management of nature protected areas. Scientific papers published at the turn of the 19th century by Dubrovnik's naturalist Baldo Kosić are valuable data source on biological diversity of the Dubrovnik region. One of his scientific papers entitled ˝Ribe dubrovačke˝, in translation ˝The Fish of Dubrovnik˝, was published in 1903. The aim is to use objects of Kosić’s investigation interest in educational publication of the Public Institution for Management of Nature Protected Areas in Dubrovnik-Neretva County. Legislation and the Red Data Books of the Republic of Croatia will also be used as expert groundwork in the creation of educational material for the children of preschool and school age. The themes of the publication are the protected fish species. Those marine fish species that are described in the Red Data Books according to IUCN categories of threat, as well as the legally protected species with a particular attention to the scientific data published by Baldo Kosić, will be processed and represented. The species will be visually illustrated and described by using the data relating to the degree of threat. The data relating to their distribution will be analyzed particularly due to the fact that some of the areas described in the Kosić scientific papers more than a hundred years ago, are today the natural values legally protected in different categories of protection or areas of the National Ecological Network.
