Sažetak
Spray drying is a method of producing a dry powder from a liquid or slurry by rapidly drying with a hot gas (usually air). This is the preferred method of drying of many thermally-sensitive materials such as foods, pharmaceuticals and industrial products (paint pigments, ceramic materials, catalysts and/or catalytic supports). This work deals with spray drying of precursor solutions as an advanced method for preparation of the catalytic active forms of the bismuth molibdates. The influence of preparation conditions, such as temperature, feed flow rate and flow rate of the atomization air on morfology, physico-chemical and catalytic properties of the prepared samples is investigated. For the purpose of comparison two additional methods are used for preparation of the beta phase of Bi/Mo oxides: spray drying of suspension and precipitation as an traditional method of the catalyst preparation. Prepared bismuth molibdates are extensively characterized using several techniques, such as XRD, Raman spectroscopy, FTIR, SEM, laser diffraction and surface measurements (nitrogen adsorption/desorption). Catalytic properties of the bismuth molibdates are studied using selective oxidation of propylene into acrolein as a model reaction. Laboratory scale activity tests are carried out in conventional fixed-bed reactor operating under atmospheric pressure and at different reaction conditions. High purity synthetic air is used as an oxidant. The catalysts activity for propylene oxidation is evaluated from the overall conversion of propylene when the reaction reached steady-state. Selectivity is calculated as the amount of the desired product (acrolein) obtained per amount of consumed reactant (propylene). The study objective was to correlate morfology, physico-chemical and catalytic properties of bismuth molibdate catalysts with the preparation conditions in order to obtain additional information needed to prepare an efficient catalytic materials.
