Sažetak
According to the level of social danger and consequences, there are some attempts to reduce the unsafety in traffic influencing on three factors of road traffic safety: human, vehicle and roads. In traffic culture, the fastest and most effective way is to affect the driver. While driving people can, besides the modern Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and platforms, use mobile terminal devices which, in different ways, help them to communicate and to document various contents. This paper presents the results of research conducted through a survey form ("An influence study of the use of modern communication equipment on traffic safety"). The survey explored driver’s attitude about their position in the vehicle during the drive (driver or passenger), the use of mobile devices while driving, and different forms of communication. In Republic of Croatia (RH), using mobile devices without hands-free accessories is illegal and a subject of the fine prescribed with the law, too. According to this survey, 369 of 631 participants are drivers, who sometimes use mobile terminal device while driving, 111 of them use it frequently, and 151 said that they never used it. During the drive, mobile terminal devices are mostly used for talking, navigation, writing and / or reading messages, e.g. Short Message Service (SMS), Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) or Electronic mail (E-mail). With this research a special attention has been given to the functionality of commonly used mobile terminal devices, as well as to the level of (un)safety.
