Sažetak
The talk argues that effective communication is more than a matter of linguistic competence and that cultural awareness can enhance and enrich communicative competence, develop empathy and respect towards different cultures as well as promote cultural understanding. It offers some tentative answers to the complex questions regarding the role of culture in today's foreign language classroom.
