Sažetak
Evaluation of teeth development is vaulable resource for age estimation in children. The aim of this study was to evaluate the Haavikko`s standards and Cameriere European formula for age estimation in Croatian children. Panoramic radiographs (OPG) of 1476 Croatian children (672 boys and 803 girls, aged 5-14) were evaluated and dental age was calculated as mean value of seven permanent teeth from left side of lower jaw for the first method (Haavikko, 1970), different sets of four teeth were scored, up to ten years of chronological age and over the ten years of age for the second method (Haavikko, 1974), and apices of seven permanent teeth from left side of mandible were evaluated by Cameriere’s method using European formula. Results: The mean difference between the dental age and the real age for both genders was smallest using Cameriere’s method (-0.11±0.71 year, p<0.001), following Haavikko method using four teeth (-0.25±0.79 year, p<0.001). Haavikko method using seven teeth underestimated the dental age the most (-0.96±0.99 year, p<0.001). Both Haavikko’s methods greatly underestimated dental age over thirteen years of age. Conclusion: The European formula by Cameriere was the most appropriate for age estimation on sample of OPGs of Croatian children. The specific Haavikko’s standards for Croatian children should be considered.
