Sažetak
The quality of media products in a dominantly neoliberal concept of media policy correlates with financial performance indicators of a media organisation, conglomerates and the industry. Convergence between and inside media organisations and convergence between media and other industries – telecommunications in particular – has not resulted with added value in financial performance indicators, as had been expected. The correlation between informativeness and media organisation performance indicators, types of their capital mergers and media industry in general, as showed in Croatian environment through a 2007- 2011 longitudinal research with extrapolation of the key trends, poses before economic and media policy makers the task of finding a new model for survival of media organisations. The trends in the context of achieving the social functions of the media show a disproportion between expectations and real possibilities. The authors conclude that the converging media trends, in the context of achieving the social role of the media, show a disproportion between the quality of converging media production.
