Sažetak
Sustainable socio-economic growth relies upon several contributing factors, including optimal utilisation of available resources, energy efficiency and minimised impact on the environment and health. Studies and deployment have already shown the invaluable contribution of the utilisation of information and communications technologies (ICT) to achievement of sustainable growth. Here we argue that a widepsread utilisation of satellite navigation technology, as an embedded technology in numerous socio-economic systems and a component of the national infrastructure, present the invaluable contribution to the establishment of the framework for sustainable development. Case-studies from transport, financial, agricultural and marine ecology sectors presented in this paper add to the argument that positioning, timing and data fusion based on unlimited GNSS services can provide enormous and yet mostly unexploited contribution to sustainable growth. This paper concludes the argument of the necessity of maintaining the GNSS quality of positioning service and its protection on the national level.
