Sažetak
Variations of tribological conditions such as coefficient of friction, loading etc. during the meshing cycle cause difficulties in the simulation and analysis of gear teeth contact. The normal and tangential load profiles acting on gear tooth flanks during the mesh are usually determined using Hertzian theory and Coulomb’s law of friction, which are valid for dry and mixed-mode lubricating conditions, but unsuitable for the case of elastohydrodynamic (EHD) lubrication conditions due to a local pressure extreme in the outer part of the contact area. The coefficient of friction also varies along the path of contact in EHD lubrication conditions and must be calculated for each point during the mesh. This paper presents a mathematical model and procedure for the calculation of the pressure profile and the local pressure extreme under conditions of EHD lubrication, together with a model for the calculation of the coefficient of friction between tooth flanks in contact. The procedure is very convenient for applications in numerical analysis as it enables determination of normal/tangential loading profiles and values of the coefficient of friction at desired number of points along the tooth flank during the loading cycle.
