Sažetak
The paper departs from emphasising the necessity of re-writing general bioethics history, taking into consideration recent research on Fritz Jahr. The arrival of bioethics to Croatia, according to the authors, may be dated to 1985, when Valentin Pozaić used the term „bioethics“ for the first time in literature. The paper follows the development of the discipline by the theologians, lawyers, and Faculty of Medicine in Rijeka, where bioethics was introduced, in the early 1990s, into academic teaching. As a conclusion, it is stated that modern Croatian bioethics be characterised by a fascinating variety of forms and authors, a very efficient and active network, a long list of publications, and certain globally innovative initiatives (integrative bioethics, European bioethics). This development was hardly to be forseeable from the presented early history of the discipline.
