Sažetak
Based on the assumption that tourism system is highly labor-intensive, education can be considered as the basic factor of labor efficiency and business activities in tourism. The aim of this paper is to provide critical analysis of the existing system of secondary and higher tourism education in Croatia. On the basis of the conducted analysis authors will point out the disadvantages of the existing education system for tourism sector in Croatia, as well as the measures for improving the system. The main problem of this research is the lack of clearly defined needs of tourism business enterprises to employ the specific experts of various competencies. This is why the education system is not able to adequately educate professional staff that could satisfy the needs of tourism industry in wider sense. Among others, the most relevant method used in the paper is the method of comparative analysis. Using secondary data, tourism education system at all levels will be compared to tourism employment in the Republic of Croatia.
