Sažetak
Self-esteem influences our attitudes, expectations, judgments and all aspects of our life (Lawrence, 2006). The aim of this study was to investigate relationship between the self-esteem (Rosenberg’s scale) and attitudes towards employed VI persons (SZS scale). The participants were 427 students from two Croatian universities (mean age M=20.7). Results did not reveal significant differences in attitudes related to students’ self-esteem. However, differences exist in the order of the first 5 most frequently chosen attitudes. Most students with lower self-esteem find 1) sheltered employment as the most appropriate working place for VI persons and that 2) VI persons have equal capabilities comparing with the general population. 3) Most students with higher self-esteem presume that VI is a barrier for achieving good working results only for specific work places. Results did not reveal significant differences in the attitudes between students with and those without contacts with VI person. However, differences exist in the order of the first 5 most frequently chosen attitudes. Most students who had contacts presume that 1) there are as many egoists among VI persons as in the general population, and that 2) VI persons have equal capabilities comparing with the general population. Most students who never had contacts with VI persons consider that 1) VI persons are more likely to change work places than workers with normal sight and that 2) VI persons depend more on other people’s support.
