Sažetak
The paper discusses the results of research into the hydrographicconditions (temperature, salinity, oxigen, pH and transparency)of the Rijeka dubrovačka estuaryand the impact of theseconditions on the season and intensity of spat settlement, aswell as growth to marketable size, mortality, and the index ofcondition of adult mussels. Due to constant fresh water inflows the area has low salinityvalues at the surface (often lower than 20x10 -3) and lesspronounced temperature variations than those characteristic forthe Adriatis coast. Best mussel settlement was recorded at 1 mdepth (1406 ind/100 cm 2), in spring, and relatively fast growthand low mortality rate of adults were recorded. At 3 m depthmussels needed 4 months to reach marketable soze. The quality ofmussels was excellent with the highest values of index ofcondition (Baird's 74.62%, and Hopkins' 17.76%).
