Sažetak
Certain classes of field problems, particularly those involving geomechanical applications, involve unbounded continua. This paper considers the use of mapped infinite elements for modelling the far field response. The formulation of these elements and the associated numerical integration are briefly discussed. The applicability of the technique is examined and the benefits of employing a combined finite/infinite element approach to the solution of unbounded problems is then illustrated by one numerical example.
