Sažetak
Data on the prevalence of tobacco, alcohol and cannabis use were collected within the scientific research project “Substance abuse among the general population in Croatia”. Research was conducted on a representative sample of 4756 respondents aged between 15 and 64. Results showed that 36.3% of respondents smoked tobacco in the time of the survey, in the form of cigarettes, cigars, or pipes. Sometime in their lifetime 46.8% or respondents regularly smoked tobacco. 7.6% of respondents reported that they smoke or have smoked tobacco daily between 15 and 20 years, 7.5% of them between 20 and 30 years, and 4.6% for more than 30 years. 38% of respondents consumed alcohol once a month or less, 25.3% of respondents 2-4 times a month, 13.4% of respondents 2-3 times a week, and 9.3% of respondents 4 times a week or more. Wine was consumed every day by 4.2% of respondents, beer by 3%, and hard liquor by 0.8% of respondents. 1.1% of respondents drank six or more drinks in a row daily. At least once in their lifetime 15.6% of respondents consumed cannabis, and 2.9% of respondents consumed cannabis regularly sometime in their lifetime. The significance of this research is that, on general level, it gives insight into the proportion of substance use among the general population in Croatia, which provides a base for forming and evaluation of strategies for combating substance abuse. Because of the research methodology used, the data from this research is comparable with data from other European countries.
