Sažetak
The existing port facilities of some ports in the Mediterranean could to a large extent determine their development and growth. This also applies to some island destination ports. In that sense, a comprehensive infrastructure development must become an all-important concern for regional port authorities, governments as well as cruise lines. In order to stay competitive, ports must identify the different requirements placed upon them by various cruise operators. The Adriatic plays an important role in the Mediterranean cruise market, largely owing to the position of Venice and Dubrovnik as two region`s leading tourist and cruise destinations. The main objective of this paper is to analyse the port of Korčula in the context of the cruise tourism. The long term success of the Port of Korčula should be primarily based on accommodating smaller sized ships as well as mega yachts. The necessity of specialized cruise passenger terminal is also emphasized. Additionally, the formation of the Korčula Cruise Club could encourage coordination of the local community, including port authorities, tour operators, ground operators and other entities involved in order to increase the cruise business opportunities.
