Sažetak
Shaped by particular natural processes and vivid historical context, areas of Northern Croatia developed unique elements of its spatial identity. Specific environmental features followed by historical and social processes setting on relatively small areas within present state boundaries of Croatia, resulted in diverse cultural landscape appearances in places that developed under various cultural ascendancy. The thesis aims to reveal site-specific characteristics, cultural legacy, origins of social and spatial development through periods and evolving relationships of inhabitants to natural landscape. Information gathered from historic plans and maps, aerial photographs and vintage postcards, published monographs, journals and survey data, oral history of local residents compared with contemporary characteristics, resulted in the detection and evaluation of elements creating recognizable local appearance of the area. The assemblage of natural and anthropogenic components making the appearance and its recognized interlinking system can be used in further spatial consideration and development manipulation in order to preserve local identity.
