Sažetak
Dear conference participants, You have before you the Proceedings Book of the International Scientific Conference 'Rethinking Urbanism', which the Scientific Committee and Organizers Board have managed to prepare and publish prior to the very conference, as required by the standards of well-organised scientific events. Although the deadlines for application of topics, reviewing and acceptance of abstracts, as well as of the very submission of full-scope papers were very steep, we would like to express our satisfaction with excellent collaboration and communication with the authors and their institutions, due to which all the papers have been submitted in good time to the extent required, as instructed. All papers have been internationally reviewed. Unfortunately, some failed to meet the strict requirements, and such topics could not be included in the final programme of the event. In some cases reviewers recommended improvements, which have been incorporated into such published papers, and therefore the Scientific Committee is ultimately very satisfied with the quality of selected topics and the level of their presentation in the Proceedings Book. For the sake of rationality, papers were limited to 10, 000 characters, which corresponds to the length of oral presentation of 15 minutes, as per the event schedule. Naturally, the four mandatory pages for each paper, as per the announcement, could have been accompanied by a selective bibliography, requisite notes and a few figures, which had to be occasionally selected by the editors because of excessiveness or low technical quality. Forty-two positively evaluated presentations have been selected for participation at the event, out of which there are five invited key lecturers for the plenary section and thirty-seven regular papers divided into three sections by topical fields, both in the programme of the event and the Proceedings Book: - Section A – TOWN: Urban Planning – Research and Design (14 presentations) ; - Section B – SPACE AND LANDSCAPE: Physical, Regional and Landscape Planning – Research and Design (14 presentations) ; - Section C – HERITAGE: Historic City, Urban Development and Preservation – Research, Planning and Design (9 presentations). Participants of the event come not only from Croatian scientific circles ; prominent foreign researchers from Italy, the Netherlands, Romania, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Macedonia will also take part. In addition to architects, other professions are also represented, such as geographers, agronomists-landscape architects, political scientists, art historians, etc. We are also very glad to see a notable turnout of students from masters and doctorate studies. In a wide span of topics, from general strategic monitoring of processes to individual research works, we should also point out case-studies dedicated to research of towns and cities, such as Ljubljana, Novi Sad, Skopje, Sarajevo, Zagreb, Križevci, Split, Dubrovnik, Zadar, as well as of some Croatian islands and county areas. We do believe that this Proceedings Book will remain as a useful textbook for further use even after wrapping-up of the event and constructive discussions, as well as an inspiring collection for future research.
