Sažetak
While the majority of projects addressing growing companies (gazelles) are focused on celebrating the highest growth in turnover, little attention is given to sustainable growth companies. The paper addresses the importance of sustainable growth of companies, proves its correlation with their viability, and promotes it as a key component for building economic prosperity, existing jobs preservation and new jobs creation. In 2005, Croatian newspaper Business.hr had launched the study of fast growing companies (Croatian Gazelles), based on the growth criteria defined by achieving (cumulative) turnover growth by at least 30% in the three preceding years. Since then, Business.hr researched the data of 8787 Croatian Gazelles provided by the national financial agency FINA. The methodology included financial data screening, telephone interviews, trend and correlation analyses, and comparisons of indicators by years, regions, and activities. This research confirmed the positive effects of sustainable growers to viability of job creation and continuous competitiveness. It also showed the need to expand research in order to identify key success factors and strategies of the sustainable gazelles. The paper provides recommendations to various stakeholders on required efforts to promote sustainable dynamic entrepreneurship, to create growth-enabling environment and benefit from the synergy. The initial data collection process was inadequately designed, but it was improved through the project development. Some data were reorganized and the analyses expanded. The authors didn’t do personal in-depth research interviews, but provided the data-collecting staff with the necessary guidance. The authors pioneered the concept and identification of sustainable gazelles in Croatia. Thus, it paved the way for further research of winning models and concepts. The additional value of the project is in provided recommendations to various stakeholders on how to create supporting environment for sustainable entrepreneurial growth.
