Sažetak
Historic core of Split has been included in the register of World Cultural Heritage since 1979. In this paper the methodology of integration of heritage conservation together with the urban design strategies for historic core of Split has been shown. Urban heritage should serve as the key stone for the development of an urban policy. Diversity and individual identity of each particular historic site requires adjustment of its conservation philosophy to the historic fabric itself, to the local community and resources. On the other hand, familiar examples should be recognized and used as the case- studies. Crucial problems of the Split historic core in terms of interpretation and presentation of cultural heritage has been detected, and solutions (using some global and some specific methods) proposed.
