Sažetak
In period from 1880 to 1910 Croatia had more than 200, 000 ha of vineyards and more than 400 grape varieties under cultivation. After Phylloxera destroyed vineyards huge decrease of surface under vineyards accrued. Today there is only 35, 000 ha of vineyard in Croatia. In last five years national policy of stimulations for planting new vineyard resulted in increase of demand for grapevine planting material. Fruit and vine propagation in Croatia is under control of Institute for Seeds and Seedlings which is part of Croatian center for agriculture, food and rural affairs. Legislation on grapevine propagation in Croatia is adjusted according to EU standards. According to annual report on grapevine propagation of Institute for Seeds and Seedlings in year 2010 there was 29 nurseries involved in grapevine propagation, and 6.702.352 vine grafts declared (5.897.970 produced in Croatia and 804.782 imported). 82 cultivars are included in propagation in same year. Graševina (Welsch Riesling) is dominant cultivar in propagation with share of 20%, followed by Plavac mali (10%), Cabernet sauvignon (7%), Babić (6%) and Merlot (6%). Currently there are five rootstocks mostly used in propagation: SO4 (26, 6%), Kober 5BB (23, 6%), Richter 110 (21, 57%) Paulsen 1103 (16, 4%) and Ruggeri 140 (6, 2%). In last 10 years there was an huge increase in number of grafts declared, from 2, 4 million in year 2001 to 6, 7 million in year 2010. Dominant cultivars in propagation in last 10 years is Graševina, but huge increase in propagation of native cultivars Plavac mali and Babić, has accrued. Kober 5BB lost his dominant position in rootstocks used for propagation in last decade (>50% in year 2004), and because new vineyards are intensively planted in Adriatic region, Paulsen 1103 and Richter 110 rootstock are becoming more used. Future of grapevine propagation in Croatia depends on development of viticulture after Croatia joins EU.
