Sažetak
To control the ship emissions in Adriatic Sea and their impact on coastal ecosystems, it is necessary to identify, classify and collect set of parameters required for calculation the total amount of pollutants coming from each vessel of interest and their spatial distribution. Corresponding data has to be sent from ship to responsible Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) in such form to be easily decoded and implemented in emission register data base. Using of Automatic Identification System (AIS) imposes itself as the most effective solution for that purpose, both from the economic and technical implementation aspects. In order to create dynamic model for ship emission prediction, suitable for Adriatic Sea area, it is necessary to implement additional data in AIS message, particularly those related to ship power plant characteristics, fuel consumption and weather conditions. In this paper, AIS system possibilities for ship emission monitoring are examined. Authors suggested the use of AIS application specific binary messages which may significantly extent the AIS system capabilities and allow easier data acquisition, and proposed a solution for AIS based emission monitoring in Adriatic Sea.
