Sažetak
Cost management is of a great importance in banking business. In fact, cost management directly affects the financial success of the bank. Costs related with banking business can be classified in two main groups: financial costs and operating costs. Financial costs relate to direct costs which include deposit interest expenses consisting of value of deposit funds, level of interest rate and days of fixed – term depositing. A new scientific model based on accounting information for management of deposit interest costs has been developed by application of scientific methods. Such interest expenses optimization model gives information which bank management uses as information base in planning, decisions making and managing deposits. Benefits of developed model also refer to creating different planned scenarios in order to manage costs of deposit interest more efficaciously as well as doing more detailed analysis of them. Applicability of mentioned model is presented by an example of managing costs of deposit interest in deposit banking, expressed in Croatian national currency (HRK). Beside model’s relevance, such example also proves benefits of developed model.
