Sažetak
Road and railway crossing at the even level is a permanent source of danger for safety in road and railway traffic. In case of a train colliding with any of road transport participants, the consequences are very heavy, which imposes the need of dealing with this issue. Absolutely safe solution – interruption or unevenness of crossing is not always applicable for obvious reasons, therefore higher level of safety is being achieved through application of modern signaling and safety apparatuses. Statistic show large number of accidents occurring even on crossings with modern safety equipment, mainly due to non-compliance with signalisation on the part of the road traffic participants. Except the need for increase in traffic culture of both drivers and pedestrians in road traffic, this scientific debate will deliberate on the reasons for inappropriate behaviour, as well influence railway has on such behaviour. Further on, we will elaborate on possible activities with the aim of eliminating the causes that lead to crossing of the railway- road crossing when so forbidden by safety equipment. We will focus on the period required for a railway-road crossing to close, and the strong effect in has on railway-road crossings’ safety.
