Sažetak
The northern Adriatic is one of the most productive parts of the Mediterranean Sea, due to the nutrient discharges of the surrounding rivers. The nutrient loading model AVGWLF (ArcView Generalized Watershed Loading Function) was applied to calculate nutrient loads in northern Adriatic watershed (NAW) for last 39 years (1970.– 2008.). While up to date research includes mainly the nutrient load estimations from the most productive areas like Po River basin (Italian part), this research aims to estimate the loads from entire contributing area to northern Adriatic including the contributing areas from the Italian, Slovenian and Croatian part (> 110.600 km2). The AVGWLF model provides the ability to simulate runoff, sediment, and nutrient (N and P) loadings from a watershed. It also has algorithm for calculating septic system loads, and allows for the inclusion of point source discharge data as WWTP. It is a continuous simulation model which uses daily time steps for weather data and water balance calculations. Monthly calculations are made for sediment and nutrient loads, based on the daily water balance accumulated to monthly values. River network map with all mayor rivers and their basins, soil map, land use map and elevation map together with precipitation and air temperature data were used for the model. Model calculates erosion, sediments, dissolved N, total N, dissolved P and total P. Before createing the model for entire NAW, model was first calculated and calibrated for Po River basin using measured data. Annual calculated and measured data have wery well match. Model results for entire NAW were compared with model results for Po River basin shows that Po River is dominant in nutrient loading for northern Adriatic (NA), as generally beleived, however other contributing areas are to be considered as well. Model also shows that mayor ???? of nutrients are agricultural and developed areas. Managing this areas we could control nutrient loading in NA in a way to control manure .... and type of WWTP in developed areas. Further work will be focused to apply this results to a reliable model for estimating the trophic state in NA as well as for controlling and managing the activities in the contributing areas.
