Lighting is the technique of production and use of the visible light. Its quantitative evaluation implies an appropriate metrology, which is the photometry. The professional sector of lighting goes actually through an important and fast evolution due to several factors: spectacular development of new light sources, increasing interest for security and comfort, rational use of energy, European standardization. The field of lighting is both difficult and attractive because it is a place of convergence of numerous scientific disciplines as physics, optics, physiology, electricity, electronics, optoelectronics, metrology, informatics.
