Sažetak
In continental Croatia concentrations of heavy metals Cd, Hg and Pb were studied in the kidney and muscle tissues of free-living wild boar (n=169) from hunting grounds. The highest average metals levels measured in muscle/kidney were (mg/kg): Cd 0.005/4.58 ; Pb 0.15/0.195 ; Hg 0.012/0.15. Samples exceeding the permitted values (muscle/kidney mg/kg: Cd 0.05/1 ; Pb 0.1/0.5 ; Hg 0.03/0.1) in all regions studied was: for Cd 13.6% of muscle and 71.6% of kidney ; for Pb 13.6 % of muscle and 8.9 % of renal tissue and for Hg 19.5 % of kidney and 2.4 % of muscle. Significant differences in renal and muscle Cd, Pb and Hg concentrations between counties were determined. According to high percentages of unsuitable samples in muscle and kidney samples Vukovar- Srijem and Virovitica-Podravina regions were highly contaminated with Cd, Sisak-Moslavina and Virovitica-Podravina County with Pb and Brodsko- Posavina had highest Hg concentrations. High Cd, Pb and Hg levels in the kidney and muscle tissues of wild boar suggest a detailed investigation of physiological and environmental factors contributing to animal contamination and an intensified control of meat and elimination of organ from human nutrition.
