Sažetak
Aesthetically pleasing arch structures have been used as bridges since ancient times. Constructed of various materials, these structural forms are suitable for a range of terrain and topographical features, which beam structures, cannot cross. Due to years of use under adverse environmental impacts, these structures often require urgent and thorough rehabilitation. Special devices and equipment that have to be used to provide access to all parts of the structure represent a special challenge in maintenance of arch bridges. This paper describes the repair of structural elements of arch bridges. Practical application is highlighted by examples of the reconstruction of several bridges in Croatia, based on the experiences in periodic/extraordinary maintenance. Many bridges were restored because of damage which they sustained during the war, which required a special approach to periodic maintenance.
