Sažetak
The aim of this paper is to summarize personal essay-writing of Virginia Woolf and show its influence on modern theory of literature. The problems which were raised in her essays eighty years ago set up the groundwork for later studying the female literature. Virginia Woolf, one of the most famous modernist writers of the 20th century, was primarily popular for her experimental novel writing, and her reputation as a critic and an essayist was neglected for a period of time. With the development of feminist criticism, her personal essays became an issue of interest again. In her literary work she broke up with traditional writing, offering new approaches to actual social issues, as well as to established narrative techniques. Many of her literary procedures which she implemented in her fiction, were clarified through her critical, personal and feminist essays. This paper focuses on Woolf's essays which offer a completely new approach in modern literary theory.
