Sažetak
This paper analyses the two main characters of the novels Wilhelm Meister's Apprenticeship by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Orlando by Virginia Woolf. Considering the Bildungsroman as a bond between (auto)biography and picaresque novel and Bakhtin’s thesis of a hero whose character changes depending on the accepted real historical time, Orlando is regarded as a parody of the Bildungsroman. A parallel is drawn between Orlando and Wilhelm Meister. Similarities are observed and analysed considering the social, psychological and cultural aspects of both novels. The analysis of the utopian end of both novels concludes with the self-realisation of main characters through certain conformity.
