Sažetak
Waste management is one of the main tasks of environmental protection in Croatia. The Waste Management Strategy (WMS) and the Waste Management Plan (WMP) in the Republic of Croatia define the concept of waste management hierarchy. WMS is supported by a wide range of regulations related to waste management. The policy and the entire acquis communautaire of municipal solid waste (MSW) management in Croatia have been implemented according to the laws and regulations adopted during the last ten years. The Waste Law emphasises the infrastructure development for an integral waste management system. The WMP predicts the rehabilitation and closure of all the existing landfills in Croatia by the year 2010, and the establishment of a county/regional waste management system. Serious efforts have been done in the last 5 years in the field of waste management system implementation. This paper aims to present achieved results in the Republic of Croatia so far through the implementation of the Waste Management Plan and different regulations for special waste categories.
