Sažetak
New technologies can produce an essential contribution to tourism development. Internet offers the potential to make information and booking facilities available to large numbers of tourists at relatively low costs. It also provides a tool for communication between tourism suppliers, intermediaries and consumers. Web-based electronic commerce, in particular, is profoundly affecting business models and distribution channels across the entire travel and tourism industry. Like other parts of the industry, cultural heritage tourism is increasingly depending on information and communication technologies (ICTs) for purposes of promotion, distribution and delivery of products and services. The present paper provides an overview of the status of Croatian cultural heritage tourism on the Internet, paying particular attention to identification and characterization of online cultural heritage players and emphasizing the role of ICTs in the growth of heritage tourism destinations. It suggests the use of DMS as the best way to facilitate the management of destinations, as well as the co- ordination of the local suppliers at the destination level. In addition, DMSs provide interactive demonstrations of local amenities and attractions and enable consumers to build their own itinerary based on their interests and requirements.
