Sažetak
The aim of this thesis is to reveal the present status of white-tailed eagles (Haliaeetus albicilla) in Croatia - possible future state of population regarding possible management scenarios. During 2002 all known data about breeding distribution were colleted. During breeding season 2003 and 2005 (partially 2006) all nesting places which covers area from Karlovac to Vinkovci were visited. Groups of regionally displaced nests (75% of population) were visited twice during breeding season in order to get information on breeding success. Twenty ecological parameters that describes breeding habitat were measured or generated through ArcView 3.2. Detection of areas suitable for breeding of White-tailed eagles in Croatia was done by using GIS by applying the values that counts for more than 95% of population for four most relevant parameters. Multivariate analysis revealed ecological gradient in which national population occurs. Analysis of placement of nests according to the human built features like distance to the nearest village, number of villages in buffer of 3 km, distance to the roads of 1st and 2nd category were performed. According to known data on national population viability analysis under several possible management scenarios were performed. Relative comparison of possible state of population revealed specific combination of environmental changes that can affect population in greatest extent.
