Sažetak
An integrated system consisting of a packed bed microbioreactor and a miniaturized separator was developed for performing biocatalytic reactions in continuous mode. The microbioreactor successfully utilizes the high surface to volume ratio along with enhanced process control for process intensification. Butyl butyrate was synthesized with 100 % conversion inside the microbioreactor and was successfully isolated from the ionic liquid medium in the developed separator, on the basis of the high difference in the boiling points. An ionic liquid medium was used instead of conventional organic solvents due to a number of advantages such as its low vapor pressure, high boiling point, stabilization of the enzyme etc. The residence time for 100 % conversion was 4 times shorter in the microbioreactor in comparison to batch experiments
