Sažetak
During History, Croatia or some of her regions were parts of many states ; The Roman Empire, France, The Austrian-Hungarian Monarchy, Italy, Yugoslavia. Border changes caused national structure changes, and population migrations had a great impact on the total number and density of inhabitants. Till the Second World War Croatia was state with big agrarian overpopulation and low incomes. The development of industry actuated migrations from villages to towns and caused processes of deagrarisation and rural areas devastation. The County of Istra was also influenced with these processes. Geopolitical Istra is a peninsula on the northeast of the Adriatic Sea, surface 2.820 km2. During history characterised by wars, conflicts and big population exoduses Istra became a peculiar migration territory, especially in the 20th century. As there were few migration barriers except from territorial (nation) ones we can state that Istra had periods of out-migration and periods of immigration. A great part of population emigrated to Western European Countries (Italy, Austria) and to overseas countries (Australia, New Zealand, Canada, USA, Argentina). Fourthy years ago, when tourism started its development Istra was agrarian County. Tourism caused population migrations from rural areas to tourism centres. Nowadays Istra is an immigration region primarily of economics reasons attractive to Croatian and foreign immigrants.
