Sažetak
Neogene basin fill of the SW corner of the Pannonian basin system was traditionally subdivided into numerous lithostratigraphic units, in places bounded by the E-log markers, and partly by the changes in lithologic composition or by the regional unconformities. The renewed approach is advocated that includes definition of the genetic stratigraphic sequences bounded by the maximum flooding surfaces. An example is given of the three of such units that are correlated in the Lower Pontian sand-marl sequence of sediments in the Sava basin. Lithologic composition and thickness of sediments within the three genetic stratigraphic sequences, named Poljana, Graberje and Bregi shows integrity of the contained depositional systems, slightly progradational characteristics of the whole studied sequence and gradual shift of depocentre in a SW direction.
