Sažetak
In this paper the virtual laboratory as a new tool based on Internet networking technology has been addressed, with special reference to the opportunities it offers for engineering education, scientific research and the industry. The importance and benefits of virtual laboratories integration into a network of virtual laboratories have been pointed out. An analysis of current needs is provided and the concept of the virtual laboratory for automatic control, which will be established at the Department of Control and Computer Engineering in Automation, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb, elaborated. The development plan and the planned pilot experiments are presented. The benefits of virtual laboratories, particularly the specific benefits for countries in transition, to which Croatia belongs, are emphasized.
