Sažetak
Objectives: In this study we wanted to establish the eating quality in preschoolers from kindergartens of the city of Rijeka. Materials and methods: Eating quality of children aged from 3 to 6 years staying 10 hours a day in kindergartens was followed up during the years from 1985 to 1998. Menus were analysed. Chemical analyses of biological validity of entire daily meals were performed. Results were compared with RDA recommendations for children of same age, weight and height. Results: The average energy value of meals was 5315 kJ in children aged from 1 to 3 years, and 7500 kJ in children aged 4 to 6 years. Values of vitamins A, C and the group of B vitamins as well as of minerals (calcium, phosphorus, iron and iodium) were within recommended limits. Conclusion: The examinations pointed out that successful results can be achieved by correct planning of nutrition, preparing of menus, by control of biological quality of meals and especially important, with education about correct eating.
