This chapter provide an overview of the data and modelling tools with which the scientific evidence base is able to support assessment, decision-making and adaptive marine planning and management. Discuss the challenges to implementing an ecosystem approach (EA) utilizing the available evidence base, tools for assessment and the current framework for developing shared knowledge. Consider how the ecosystem approach may be facilitated by existing methodologies applied within a marine spatial planning (MSP) framework
