Sažetak
A few months ago we all witnessed newspaper titles like “Social Networks Playing a Role in Arab World Protests” or “Facebook revolution making waves in the Arab world”. Have social networks really started sociopolitical changes in more than one country and what is so odd about it? What is a role of some piece of software and what are social networks anyway? To put it simply social networks are the oldest form of communication grid, old as the society itself. Things get complicated with development of complex communication technologies. Information and communication technology and the development of instant global communication channels made world a global village and that piece of software opened the channels to “small” people (while making millions of dollars at the same time but that’s a different story…). ICT expanded the horizons of old social networks making them more powerful and enabling global impact but at the same time making an impact on local level. Sharing seems to have become more important than personal privacy. Virtual identities and personal realities multiply while virtual becomes just another form of reality. The presentation will try to give some answers to questions of information society phenomena and will hopefully raise some new ones.
