Sažetak
The effect of adsorbed anionic surfactants and direct dyes on surface free energy of mercerised and bleached standard cotton yarns was studied. Adsorptivity is important in wetprocessing, thus knowing which interactions have dominant influence on adsorption of surfactants and dyes on cotton is useful. Surface free energy is the sum of apolar and polarinteractions. Apolar interactions consist mainly of London dispersion interactions, but induction and orientation inter-actions may also participate. In many cases polar interactions are due to electron donor and electron acceptor inter-actions. The cotton surface is mainly monopolar with electron donor (Lewis basis) interactions because of presence of carboxyl end-groups. The apolar interaction can be Lifshits-van der Waals interactions. The thin-layer wicking technique of van Oss et.al., modified by Chibowski, Holysz, and Gonzalez-Caballero was used to determine surface free energy.
