Sažetak
Bošković’s works On Living Forces (De viribus vivis) is interesting for modern theories on fundamental forces in nature, especially for modern physics of elementary particles. From his work, we can see that he was thoroughly familiar with the development of the natural philosophy and modern physics at that time, from Galileo, Leibniz until Newton. He discussed critically the measurability and the meaning of the concept of “living forces”, and in the fundamental sense even the doubt of introduction of that concept. Analysing and discussing an example of selected experimental facts, Bošković concludes and suggests one fundamental and permanent solution to all known and unknown forces in nature, giving the shape of the fundamental force as a function of distance. Besides its dependence on distance, Bošković clearly leaves the possibility for the dependence of fundamental force on some other known and unknown properties in nature. At the end, the significance and tenability of his fundamental conclusions in relation to other properties in nature has been discussed, all with a view of modern understandings in physics.
