Sažetak
Incidence of arterial hypertension and peripheral arterial disease are believed to be related to the process of arterial ageing. Peripheral arterial disease and ABI ( ankle brachial index) is considered new risk factor for cardiovascular diseases as well as systolic arterial hypertension. It is believed that arterial hypertension occur more frequently in patients with reduced ABI. The authors evaluated relationship between PAD and arterial hypertension. Patients with normal ABI had significant lower blood pressure and were significantly younger than patients with abnormal ABI values suggesting presence of PAD. Arterial hypertensive patients compared to normotensive group have similar distribution of PAD estimated by ABI values, although the hypertensive group was significantly older. It suggests that prevalence of reduced ABI was present irrespective of systolic blood pressure. Analyzing older subpopulation ( older than 40 years) higher blood pressure followed significantly (p<0.001) reduced ABI. It suggests that patients older than 40 years with abnormal ABI suggesting PAD should have better treatment of arterial hypertension because of high cardiovascular risk overall.
