Sažetak
Dalmatia, the province from the island of Krk to the island of Korčula, was a part of the Venetian territory on the East Adriatic coast (from Istria to Albania), called Colfo or Culphum from the first decades of the 15th century. The decisions of the Venetian government were to be executed in the same way on the whole area of the Stato da mar (Adriatic to Levant). However, the Venetian state was not geographically or geopollitically coherent, so the Republic created the unified legal and administrative system and the system of fortifications and urban organization. Athough Venetian officials started with reconstruction of destroyed objects and fortifications immediately after occupying the towns (they were eager to prove Venetian “good government”), the first period of Venetian dominion over Dalmatian towns was characterized by the securing of Venetian power. The most obvious change is in the fortification system and the building of a Castle which meant physical presence of Venetians in towns. Many documents speak of the change of ownership of properties according to Venetian interests (“communalization” of city territory in important locations of towns, such as towers, areas around city walls Castles etc). The long rule of Venice in the communes strongly impacted not only urban changes and architecture, but also defence and administration of this very important part of Stato da mar. All these processes may be followed in 15th c. documents: especially those which show transactions of city properties, organisation and plannig of the city territory.
