Sažetak
Today the damages due to low cycle thermal fatigue (LCTF) are a major cause of fracture (of breakdowns) of steam and gas turbine parts. LCTF is often the result of overtop of allowable plastic deformation induced by cyclic thermal stresses that occur at transient loading(e.g. during start-up and shut-down). Most parts, subject to thermally induced stresses simultaneously operate in the creep range (C), which additionally exhausts the allowable plastic deformation. In the case it comes to the combined action of low cycle thermal fatigue and creep (LCTF&C). The current condition in design, manufacturing and exploitation of the gas and steam turbines demands that already in its design phase special attention is paid to the calculation and analysis of useful life in LCTF&C conditions, in such a manner that it becomes a part of the design concept of modern turbo-machinery, with the aim of realising sufficiently long, safe, useful life (about 200-300 thousand hours) at high manoeuvrability of operation (1000-10000 or more changes in operating conditions of complete shut-down) and high thermal efficiency. Therefore, this paper presents the concept of useful life in LCTF&C conditions which includes: development of the idea of the useful life of gas and steam turbine elements, review of the factors which influence useful life and of the methods which are used for determining useful life, and description of the most frequent problems encountered in determining the useful life.
