Sažetak
In Croatia during the last several decades wood skidding in thinning operations of 50 to 60 years old deciduous forests has been basically performed by adapted farming tractors. As their original use was considerably different, they could not meet all the basic requirements for thinning vehicles regardless the adaptations. Their equipment and adaptation for the operations of wood exploitation implies the installation of protection elements and particularly the installation of the winch. Consequently, the farming tractor becomes a completely new vehicle and apart from a separate statement of technical characteristics of the tractor and winch, technical characteristics of the new tractor assembly should be investigated.
Systematic research of technical characteristics of the thinning tractors (middle-sized skidders and adapted farming tractors) started at the Faculty of Forestry in Zagreb in 1995 by investigation of two adapted farming tractors with winches installed on the rear axle and two middle-sized skidders. In the meantime, the Public enterprise Hrvatske šume purchased about sixty farming tractors required for silvicultural operations and they are rightfully called silvicultural tractors due to their protection equipment, low speed and uniform capability of forward/backward moving. In order to increase their range of use and to make them suitable for skidding in the period when there are no silvicultural operations, the possibility of installation of quickly dis/assembling winches on three point linkage so called farmy whinches has been investigated.
This paper covers the description of morphological analysis of five tractor groups two silvicultural tractors equipped with three winches of different mass and pulling force, based on the comparison of the vehicle mass and engine power and form indexes. This analysis was entered into a previously developed database of selected characteristics for approximately eighty skidders with special reference to previously determined characteristics of a middle-sized skidder manufactured in Croatia and a farming tractor with fixed winch. In addition to the morphological analysis, the investigation of C.G. was carried out in order to define the longitudinal stability and weight capacity of the rear axle as well as the most critical technical and exploitation characteristics.
