Sažetak
Due to the development of tourism numerous small maritime communities on the Croatian Adriatic have lost their identity connected to their traditional way of life based on agriculture, fishing and farming. The new directions in cultural tourism urge the necessity to revaluate the cultural heritage of those communities. There are numerous examples of the misinterpretation and misuse of heritage as well as invented traditions which derivate from the lack of knowledge of their ancestors’ history. In order to avoid any of these possible mistakes in communicating heritage local maritime communities should work more closely with museum experts. At the same time museums should understand the importance of their role in constantly interacting with local communities in their territory. This should be their mission.
