Sažetak
Network centric-warfare is a new military doctrine or theory of war. It is based on the right information on the right place and in the right time for destroying “Command, Control and Communications” (C³) of the enemy, his key weapons, equipment and infrastructure, which often is installed in the subsurface. For assessing the vulnerability of military underground facilities geoinformation in general and geological information in particular is decisive. This paper informs on underground penetration of projectiles for destroying deeply buried military targets in the context of conventional warfare. Geotechnical characteristics of soils, hard- and soft rocks significantly influence the crater geometry of an impact, and penetration as well as trajectories of the projectiles. Geologic knowledge is important for both detecting underground military installations and assessing target vulnerability for planning the potential weapon effectiveness.
